What strong Unions do (and ours should too!):

Resources for Every Member:

  • Office hours for member support
  • Education and training on our rights
  • Utilization of all AFT technology and tools to keep members informed
  • Sending members to trainings and conferences
  • Streaming meetings so everyone can participate
  • University budget analysis and explanation for all members
  • Contract literacy workshops
  • Grievance process literacy
  • New member orientations

Fair Representation for All:

  • Equal access to representation for all members– no one should be ignored or bullied out of the union
  • Meetings with key groups (e.g. staff and adjuncts), even when it’s not an election year
  • Committees formed as needed to proactively address critical issues

Real Community:

  • Regular spaces (office hours, orientations, trainings) that bring members together
  • Streamed meetings for accessibility, transparency, and collective decision-making
  • Ongoing conversations about how our dues should be used
  • A culture of shared responsibility and collective power
