I am running for Vice President of Negotiations because I believe strong contracts, clear procedures, and thoughtful governance are essential to protecting our members and strengthening our university community. Throughout my career, I have developed a deep interest in the structures that guide our work—contracts, bylaws, policies, and procedures—and how they can be used to advocate effectively for faculty and staff.
My professional experience has provided me with a strong foundation for this role. I have served for nine years as Chair of the Faculty Senate Governance Council and previously served as Parliamentarian, roles that require careful attention to governance documents, procedures, and collaborative decision-making. Beyond our campus, I have served as President, Vice President, and Legislative Representative of the Academic Librarians Section of the NJ Library Association, chaired both the NJ Academic Librarians Bylaws Taskforce and the Marketing & Outreach Committee, and currently serve as Chair of the Association of College & Research Libraries Chapters Council. These experiences have strengthened my ability to work collaboratively, interpret complex policies, and advocate effectively for colleagues.
I also bring a broad understanding of our university community with 30 years of experience on campus. As a Faculty Librarian, Adjunct Faculty member, former Classified Staff member, undergraduate, and graduate student, I have experienced the institution from several perspectives and understand that effective negotiations must consider the diverse needs of our membership. At the same time, we must remember that our work ultimately supports our largest and most important partners: our students. Strong contracts help create positive working conditions that foster our ability to serve our students.
In addition, I have over twenty years of experience as a licensed NJ Real Estate Agent. I have experience and engage in regular professional development in contracts and negotiations, which are a central part of the profession. This work requires careful attention to contract details and the ability to understand changing markets and environments. I believe these experiences, combined with my commitment to shared governance and collaborative leadership, prepare me well to support our union during negotiations.
If elected, I will approach this role with preparation, transparency, and a commitment to listening to our members. Our union is strongest when negotiations reflect the collective priorities of our community and when we remain focused on building a strong institution that supports both those who work here and the students we serve.
